A Brief Look At Insanity CORR’s Origin Story

As a brand, Insanity CORR had its first ever appearance in late 2017.

The studio was formed by a group of first-year students who enrolled in the Game Development program at the University Of Ontario Institute Of Technology (the school has since rebranded to Ontario Tech University, or OTU for short). During the first week of school, the original members introduced themselves to each other, and formed a student group to work on a 4-month long game project as part of the program’s workshop course, Game Development Workshop (GDW).

GDW was a course designed for students to collaborate in teams and develop their very own titles as part of the learning experience in the Game Development program, with development usually spanning from the beginning to the end of the school year. From 2017 to 2019, that iteration of the company worked on titles for the aforementioned GDW course, as well as becoming a part of OTU’s Brilliant Catalyst Incubator start-up program where Insanity CORR as a company began taking shape.

However, as time progressed, some members elected to pursue other opportunities and ultimately left. The remaining two members, Serena Boldy and Jack McFadden-Finlayson, would thus become the backbone of the company we see today.

In early 2020, Serena and Jack would eventually join forces with three individuals who were also students of the OTU Game Development course, and restart the Insanity CORR brand with the intention of becoming a proper indie studio developing games for the market. The three members picked up were Jakob Anderson, Alex Siciak, and Boris Au. The five would begin development of Insanity CORR’s first official game shortly after.

In May 2020, Insanity CORR participated in CGX Grad Jam, where the final piece of the Insanity CORR puzzle was added. Ivan Parkhomenko was a recent graduate from Fanshawe College’s Game Development program, and would eventually become the sixth member of the company we see today. The 6 members would form as the core of the company’s operations, appropriately labeled as the CORR. Over the course of 2020 and early 2021, Insanity CORR would continue developing its first title while at the same time having some of the members finish their final year of studies.

In January 2021, Insanity CORR participated in Global Game Jam 2021, where the idea of Headless JEFF-3 was born. The CORR managed to develop a playable build for Headless JEFF-3 within 48 hours, and was widely received by the GDSA community for its originality and technical work within a short period of time.

Upon graduation, most members finally had time to fully dedicate themselves to Insanity CORR and in July of 2021, the company officially incorporated. Around this time, the studio decided to explore Headless JEFF-3 as an official indie title, and all 6 members of the CORR unanimously decided to begin production.

Now, from the time of writing, Insanity CORR has been developing their first production title, Headless JEFF-3, and will see to its completion with a release in 2022.
